Prélude in C-sharp minor is the second of Rachmaninoff's Fantasy Pieces Morceaux de fantasie op. 3. It is one of Rachmaninoff’s most popular piano pieces.
In this transcription, the double bass doubles the fateful motifs in the lower register of the piano that ring like funeral bells. The dramatic middle section has a singing melody in the upper register of the double bass, growing to a climactic peak followed by repeated tolling of bells gradually vanishing into the distance.
Included is a piano score and bass part in orchestra tuning (with an extend range of the double bass down to a low C-Sharp).
